Frequently Asked Questions:
Is it loud or intense?
Yes, SportsWorld can be a very loud environment. If you feel your camper might benefit from noise reduction help, we recommend sending them with a labeled pair of ear protection headphones. We offer a few pairs for children to borrow, but suggest that you bring your own if applicable.
Who coaches the sports?
We have a group of volunteers who coach, and they are all background checked by the church for safety & security. Our coaches all love the sport that they coach and are knowledgeable about the sport, the movements, and running drills with students.
What's the location?
SportsWorld will be held at Peninsula Community Chapel (4209 Big Bethel Road, Yorktown 23693) and its surrounding fields. Some Soccer, Baseball/Softball, and Tennis will be held at sports fields in the surrounding area (at Tabb High School). (Students will be transported by minibus from PCC to the sports field by qualified and background checked drivers on PCC staff.)
Is my child old enough?
Campers are current 1st - 5th graders. When signing up your child, please use your child's current grade level (school year 2025-2026). This full day camp is intense and we feel it is safest to keep it to those who have finished 1st grade and older.
Can I volunteer?
We are fully staffed for our 2026 summer, but welcome you to let us know if you'd like to coach in the future. However, if you'd like to volunteer, our leadership and coaches always appreciate snacks or food to keep them going! If you have a current 6th - 7th grader, they are eligible to register to be a games crew member and 8th - 12th graders are eligible to register to be counselors. These spots are limited but wait lists are available!
No electronics? How can I get in touch with my student?
Yes, our policy is for all campers, games crew and counselors to be without their personal electronic devices during camp. You can reach out to PCC's office and they will get in touch with your student if needed. And if you are needed, we can let your student call you on the church phone! Our phone number is: 757-867-8530
Child Care Tax Credit Information:
SportsWorld expenses may qualify for the child care tax credit. To claim this credit, you will need this receipt showing the amount you paid and PCC’s identifying information. Please save your receipt as no other statement will be provided.
