A lot of things have been waiting on the 1st floor slab being poured, and that kept getting delayed. First we had some weather days, then the forms needed to be moved, and then the rebar inspector decided to require extra rebar, which all led to the slab finally being poured today! So here's what's happened the last few weeks:

✅ All strucural steel and decking complete, minus the installation of the stairs (will be installed now that the 1st floor slab is in).
✅ Duct work installation began.
✅ Roof supplies delivered and installation began this week.
✅ DOAS (Dedicated Outside Air System) HVAC unit delivered onsite. This will treat and feed fresh outdoor air to all the smaller room units.
✅ Hole cut in the side of the wall for the DOAS to be installed in an exisitng PCC storage space.
❌ Said hole was not water-proofed properly and a couple inches of rain made it inside.
✅ Plumbing and electrical rough-in completed for slab.
✅ Rebar completed for slab.
❌ Inspector said the rebar was not completed for the slab.
✅ Rebar was completed again for the slab.
✅ Inspector said the rebar was completed for the slab.
✅ Metal studs delivered for exterior and interior walls.
✅ Brick delivered for exterior band around the building.
✅ Multiple building and flooring finishes approved and ordered.
✅ First phase of fire alarm replacement completed.
✅ Openings created on all parts of the first floor to match the new slab to the existing.

Looking ahead, we should have multiple parts moving all together. Next week, the framers will begin laying out all the walls and installing, the DOAS will be moved inside and duct work installation will continue, roofing installation will continue and we'll be dried in soon, then exterior walls will be completed and brick, windows, and siding can start moving forward while more mechanical rough-ins begin inside. So, expect lots more great things to come! Enjoy some pics below of the progress.

The steel started being put in place today and it's so exciting to see the frame start to take shape. Here's what's happened in the last few weeks:

✅ Footings prepped / bolts epoxied for steel to be fastened
✅ Roof overhang above Room 208 taken off to accommodate the steel structure
✅ Plumbing rough-in completed
✅ Gravel spread and compacted for the future slab
❌ Conduit providing power to the Cafe was "found" again (shoutout to the electrician replacing the same conduit and wire run twice in the same month)
❌ A 10PM "visit" from the York County Fire Department after a sprinkler system malfunction.....due to the Cafe power being knocked out, again.
✅ Lots of hours spent pumping water out of the footings every time it rains (shoutout to site supervisor Harry)
✅ Resolved some issues
❌ Found some new issues
✅ Planned the Fire Alarm replacement for late September in the existing building so that it can accommodate the new addition.
✅ Steel got delivered onsite
✅ Steel erection began

So far, we're still pacing on schedule and everything's been taken in stride as issues come up and get resolved. We currently have one large(r) un-resolved issue and we're trying to figure out the placement of the Team Room doors; the planned location has steel cross-bracing in the way on the original building so the engineers are working on alternatives.

Looking Ahead:
The month of August will be full with all the steel and bar joists getting installed and by the end of the month it should look like a building! The 2nd floor slab should be poured around the end of August (weather permitting), and the first floor slab will be poured sometime in September. The roof is scheduled to begin in early September as well as all of the wall framing to begin on exterior and interior walls.

Enjoy some pics below of the progress!

Welcome to the PCC Construction Blog! We plan to use this throughout the project to keep you updated on what’s happening and share various text, picture, and video updates. To catch you up to this point, here’s an overview of how we got here:

Early 2022 to Mid 2023
Summit Christian Academy (SCA) identified the need for classroom expansion and replacement of the rapidly aging classroom / office trailers. They received approval from PCC's Board of Elders to design and pay for an addition to PCC. An engineering firm was hired to develop and submit a new site plan to PCC’s property (often a lengthy process) and approval was finally received from York County in August of 2023.

Mid 2023 to Mid 2024
Initial cost estimates for SCA’s planned addition came back higher than anticipated and was exceeding what they would be able to afford, largely due to a costly grammar school relocation and build-out that had just been completed. At the same time PCC had experienced continual growth since Covid reopening and was running out of space for student ministry (PSM) and office space for staff. PCC & SCA prayerfully considered financially partnering together to build a two-story addition to the building, with the first story primarily serving SCA’s needs and the second story primarily serving PCC’s needs. PCC membership overwhelmingly voted “yes” to proceed with a new capital campaign at a special membership meeting on February 4, 2024 and “The Next 40” capital campaign was launched in April of 2024. The campaign garnered strong support from PCC as did SCA’s separate campaign. PCC & SCA developed a floor plan together of needed spaces and building design, and a Request for Proposal was sent to Spain Commercial in July of 2024 to design and build the addition.

July 2024 to May 2025
Spain accepted our request which kicked off months of meetings, designing the addition, and getting price quotes. Once pricing was in hand, PCC was able to secure financing and PCC’s Membership voted and approved the additional mortgage amount on March 23, 2025. Spain acquired the building permit, a small issue with the site plan was detected, re-submitted, and approved on May 12, 2025, and the land disturbance permit application has been submitted which is the final hurdle before Spain mobilizes onsite, which is anticipated to be in early June.

Groundbreaking Ceremony
On April 27th, PCC & SCA held a groundbreaking ceremony and picnic to commemorate the start of the project together with over 400 in attendance.

(Left to right) Amelia Peden (SCA 5th Grader), Lindsey Ralls (SCA Principal), Justin Throupe (SCA Head of School), Steve Spain (Owner, Spain Commercial), Garrett Spitz (PCC Lead Pastor), Chris Chappell (PCC Student Ministry Pastor), Sarah Campbell (SCA / PSM Senior).
